Holidays & Observances: Mrigasira Karte

Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. πŸ™‚

Every year on June 8th, Hindus all over celebrate Mrigasira Karte, the onset of monsoon season. Surprisingly this is one of the festivals that is honored by eating fish, a non-vegetarian product, specially to curb the breathing disorders.

We don’t eat meat so no fish food for us. However, my mom does a weekly pooja for Sai Baba on Thursdays, so we celebrated the day with that instead. πŸ™‚
