Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. š
The Gaelic harvest festival, Lugnasadh, fell on August 1st this year (2023). The first fruits of the harvest are celebrated and is named after the god Lugh, popular Sun God. The day is usually celebrates with games in the afternoon and ritual celebrations in the evening.
Halfway between the summer solstice (Litha) and the fall equinox (Mabon), ancient communities marked the first harvest of the season with gathering of grains and baking bread. And incidentally this year we saw the second Supermoon, Corn Moon, on this day.
This is the closest I got to fresh fruit this year, at BJ’s. š
