Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. š
The day we had the celestial event of Blue Moon on Aug 30th this year (2023), the very same day Hindus all over the world celebrate Rakhi, a festival of strengthening bonds between a brother and a sister.
My brothers were here in July visiting me so I sent Rakhis with them and they tied in their respective homes on the day of the event. This tradition binds a brother and sister in a world of love and protection. Of course there is gifts and scrumptious food follows the Rakhi ceremony.
