Holidays & Observances: World Sanskrit Day

For all the posts in this Holidays & Observances series, go here.

Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. šŸ™‚

One of the oldest languages in the world, Sanskrit, was celebrated on Aug 31st this year (2023) as World Sanskrit Day. This language is believed to have originated in India some 3500 years ago, and is also known as The Mother of all Languages.

Many Hindu scriptures are written in Sanskrit. This is the day the language is celebrated to show gratitude and respect towards it. Many organizations are trying to revive the language. Here is a book that I subscribe to and try to read it as much as I can.
