Holidays & Observances: Teej

For all the posts in this Holidays & Observances series, go here.

Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. šŸ™‚

The day of Ganesh Chathurthi was also celebrated as Teej Festival by many North Indian states and people from the country of Nepal which was Sept 18th this year (2023). This celebrates the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The women get dressed up typically in red, apply Mehendi / Henna on their hands, and observe fast praying to the two deities.

Typically the festivities are concluded with bountiful of food and dances by the women celebrating the deities. Never got an opportunity to go to one of these, but would love to participate in future.
