Holidays & Observances: Atla Tadde

Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. šŸ™‚

While North India was celebrating Karwa Chauth on Oct 31st this year (2023), in the two Telugu speaking states of South India they celebrated Atla Tadde with similar concept of fasting for the health of your husbands which changed to entire family now, breaking the fast in the evening after performing pooja (=ritual). The feast primarily comprises of Atlu (= small dosas) among other flavor filled dishes.

Other activities followed are Gorintaku (= Henna) ceremony, playfully enjoy swinging on the swings while singing song signifying the festival.
