Two Sylvias Press Advent Calendar challenge: Day 12

For all the poems in this Two Sylvias Press Advent Calendar challenge for 2023, visit my musings here.

Prologue: This is a 31 day event that helps poets and authors all over to pen down 31 new poems in the month of December (2023). Every day we can open the calendar for that day to read about the prompt for that day. Then let your imagination fly to infinity with your thoughts and voice.

For Day 12 the Prompt given to us was to write a poem that celebrates an unusual subject such as a cactus wearing fedora, a mouse in a flower crown, etc. I came across this tall file cabinet on a visit to my cousin in South Burlington, Vermont. This was listed as one of the top spots to visit there. It felt really funny when we finally visited them. So here is my poem on this unusual structure.

Prompt 12: Who Built This World’s Tallest Filing Cabinet?

Eleven filing cabinets for this tower and I wonder
Who came up with this concept?
What does it represent?
Lost paperwork in this digital world?
Or night fairies would conduct their business there?

Thirty Eight drawers in total, a tower so tall
Fit for a giant fairy rather than a tiny tinker bell.
Called as “File Under So. Co., Waiting for…,”
Who are they waiting for begs the question.
Rain or shine; snow or sleet; they stand tall.
Surprisingly not rusted a lot.

So here I sit and know where all the filing cabinets
Go away when their purpose is done.
Retiring and sitting still waiting for their calling
Again to serve the humanity
When all the digital world comes crashing down.

And here is the construction in question.
