Prologue: This is a 31 day event that helps poets and authors all over to pen down 31 new poems in the month of December (2023). Every day we can open the calendar for that day to read about the prompt for that day. Then let your imagination fly to infinity with your thoughts and voice.
For Day 13 the Prompt given to us was to write a poem that begins with “Once, I left my ______ in the _______” with a unique take on your imagination and as much as odd it can get. Here is my version.
Prompt 13: I Forgot My Fear on the Roller Coaster
Face your fear to get over it – mantra everyone chants
Instead I always wrapped it around me as a safety net.
Yet one day you came into my life challenging
Forcing me to fight either you or the fear.
So I went on this twisted clothoid loop of steel
Soaring high with wind rushing and a scream
Escaping from the depth of my soul
Blood pumping in my veins and tears running down.
At the top of that twisted loop of steel
I gently laid my fear on that top rung
While savoring the rush of adrenaline
As the steel turns into and inverted tear drop.
Slowly the machine eased me into the downward
Spin; pure exhilaration and excitement
Settling into a calm place in my mind
Realizing suddenly that I forgot my fear.
