Two Sylvias Press Advent Calendar challenge: Day 16

For all the poems in this Two Sylvias Press Advent Calendar challenge for 2023, visit my musings here.

Prologue: This is a 31 day event that helps poets and authors all over to pen down 31 new poems in the month of December (2023). Every day we can open the calendar for that day to read about the prompt for that day. Then let your imagination fly to infinity with your thoughts and voice.

For Day 16 the Prompt given to us was to write a poem where the speaker finds themselves lost in a maze; exploring the feelings of excitement, disorientation or fear in the poem. Here is my take.

Prompt 16: Slip into the Dreams of Maze

A sudden urge to visit a labyrinth
With a friend turned out a little more than an adventure.
We walked first left and then right towards the wild Hyacinth.
Did we not see this plant on the far end of the left juncture?

We shrugged; but walked on only to find
Us back in front of the Hyacinth; now a huge tree.
Imagine that! And there we closely examined
The path behind the prop roots swinging free.

Lo and behold! The Hyacinth is a small plant again.
Excited and relieved we run towards it.
Running and running for miles like a train
Yet no end in sight or reach the summit.

Suddenly the Hyacinth comes closer, we can touch
Its purple, blue and pretty pink flowers.
Our hands reach the other side in a gush.
We panic as the color changes to shades of azures.

I hear the doorbell ringing constantly in my ears
Making me turn one side and then the other
The vision behind my eyes slowly blurs.
Dripping wet with sweat I wake up in my chamber.
