Two Sylvias Press Advent Calendar challenge: Day 18

For all the poems in this Two Sylvias Press Advent Calendar challenge for 2023, visit my musings here.

Prologue: This is a 31 day event that helps poets and authors all over to pen down 31 new poems in the month of December (2023). Every day we can open the calendar for that day to read about the prompt for that day. Then let your imagination fly to infinity with your thoughts and voice.

For Day 18 the Prompt given to us was to write a poem we were asked to write an ode to the things that are normally considered ugly in a prose poem format. Be it love handles or grey hair or ugly moss growing on the edge of the wet step, we are to bring out the best in them and pen them. Here is my take.

Prompt 18: An Ode to the Unforgettable Bald Pate

Hair donned on my head like a throne for so many years and I strutted along
Feeling like a queen. But it started leaving me in early 30s as a result of
Some weird hormone issue and hereditary traits. It isnt the fault of the bald
Pate to look like a buried egg around a tuft of springy hair. Yet he looks better
Than a crown on my head now.

Then come the 40s and the buried egg rises up in full glory shedding all the
Remnants of the hairy protective covering; standing tall and bold.
Yes the sun warms him and gives him a shiny coat; and he does need a warm
Cap when temperatures dip below 20Fs. Yet, it’s the charm in hiding
And revealing the buried egg that gives anticipation to the looker.

As the 40s are concluding, the buried egg became a shining bowling ball
Wondering when he will hit the pins and score a strike or a spare.
The charm remains, the suspense keeps building as the seasons change
And it makes me want to love him more and more for e become the center of
Conversation wherever I go opening up doors to unknown friends.
