Prologue: This is a 31 day event that helps poets and authors all over to pen down 31 new poems in the month of December (2023). Every day we can open the calendar for that day to read about the prompt for that day. Then let your imagination fly to infinity with your thoughts and voice.
For Day 19 the Prompt given to us was to write a poem with expanding universe as main theme while drawing on earthly elements that constantly expand like one’s bodies; or inflating economy or rising deforestation. We are told to combine the astronomical world out there with the earthly abode while penning this poem. Here is my take.
Prompt 19: Expansion of Universe of One’s Bodies
Prices rise up like inflated balloons, but our wages
Keep shrinking day by day and year after year.
Does it remind anyone of the galaxy exploding with changes
While the black hole is condensing every century a bit narrower?
Gold and Silver market is booming beyond our reach
Like the millions of stars in the sky blinking away.
A supernova formed within these metals create a niche
For other metals to bulge devoid of restrain.
My love handles have become more of love sofas
Even though my exercise routine is expanding.
New constellations are forming heedless
Of how much cellulite is prospecting.
As everything rises and contracts in our star system
New meteoroids shower this earth with fire
And steam; broadening one’s wisdom
Slowly breathing life into a punctured tire.
