Prologue: This is a 31 day event that helps poets and authors all over to pen down 31 new poems in the month of December (2023). Every day we can open the calendar for that day to read about the prompt for that day. Then let your imagination fly to infinity with your thoughts and voice.
For Day 26 the Prompt given to us was to write a poem about things that don’t exist anymore. They could be from your childhood from history. I picked stuff from my childhood. Here is my take.
Prompt 26: Forgotten Unforgettables
We shrieked in excitement when my dad gave us the Water Game;
Spent most of the holidays looping small rings into tiny rods.
Oh what bliss it was to just while away our time; winners lay claim
To a trophy made of paper feeling like gods.
Saturday nights brought the entire family in front of the television
To watch yesteryear or latest movies on the Video Cassette Player.
We fought to get the best seat on the sofa; with relaxed supervision
From my parents; anticipating of what we would watch further.
Elevating from Telephones to Pagers eased communication
However, did we miss the basic mode of saying “hello”
Over a telephone? But, my brother had his fixation
On the Floppy Disks to store his secrets mellow.
Listening to our favorite music on the Walkman while sharing
One earbud each had been a past time on Monday nights.
Delving into the Phonebook on the coffee table; sparkling
With enthusiasm to make funny and stress-free pranks.
Did we advance in science and technology, but lost our way
Of small talks and family times? Isn’t it nostalgic to relive
The precious moments craving to sprinkle and spray
Them on your meninges hoping they will outlive.
