Prologue: A series that showcases the large statues, beautiful temples and churches I visit in my travels or I accidentally come across while taking an off-beaten path. And sometimes yes, I would include buildings and palaces too.
Batu Caves is a series of caves on a steep hill in Selangor, Malaysia. It is home for the 10th Murugan Shrine (4th outside of India). The 140 ft statue of Murugan is at the base of the hill with 272 colorful steps on its left side. They were steep and hard to climb (at least for me), but I made it to the top, and we visited the five temples inside these caves.

There is a Ramayana Cave to the extreme left of the hill that depicts story of Lord Rama. We didn’t get to go inside there, but we got to see the 50ft tall statue of Hanuman and another statue of Garuda, the divine eagle on which Lord Vishnu mounts.
