Prologue: A fun series that documents my travels.
We visited Ellora Caves during our Shirdi Pilgrimage Trip, an elaborate multi-religious rock-cut cave complex with inscriptions dating from the period 6th century AD. Of the total 100 caves only 34 are open to public – 17 Hindu (caves 13–29), 12 Buddhist (caves 1–12) and 5 Jain (caves 30–34) caves. We did the Hindu and Buddhist caves only.
Pictured – Top Left two from Cave 10; Bottom left four from Cave 8, Right top 3 from Cave 5 and the final three from Cave 14. Notice the 2 pic on top row, the roof is sculpted to look like the inside of an elephant’s skeleton, hence also called as Elephant Cave. All through the caves we see mythological stories surrounding Mahabharatha, Ramayana, and life of Buddha.
