Diaries: Death Valley – Day 1 (Artiste’s Palette, Badwater Basin)

To see about all my travel diaries, go here.

Prologue: A fun series that documents my travels.

The final two places we visited on the first day at Death Valley were – Artiste’s Palette, a series of mountains that are filled with colored hills, as though some painstakingly painted on these hills. In fact they are deposits of volcanic eruptions caused five million years ago that over the period of time reacted with nature around turning them to these colored hills. Then off to Badwater Basin, the lowest point in USA it is 282 ft below sea level; a basin filled with salt water flats where we rarely see water, but we got to see the Badwater Pool nearby.

Our day concluded with beautiful sunset in Badwater Basin and the rising almost Full Moon over the mountains of Death Valley.
