Recommendation: Interesting take on the whole imaginary friend situation, whimsical, yet it bored me and felt short on the message.
J.D. Robb along with three other authors published an anthology titled Bump In The Night in March of 2006. I posted J.D. Robb’s novella Haunted in Death that came as part of this book, and is the fourth novella in her In Death Series.
The fourth and final novella in the book was by Mary Kay McComas titled Mellow Lemon Yellow

On the day of her father’s funeral, Charlotte Gibson gets reacquainted with her childhood imaginary friend, Mel, who helps her finding herself. A different take on the whole imaginary friend.
It was whimsical but it felt really boring to read. I was waiting for Charlotte to grow and be a better herself. But all the author manages to show us is the idea that a grown woman changes herself to attract men and find love. What was wrong in being plain and still beautiful in your own way?
Encouraging her adventure side was good, but the story focused mainly on the imaginary friend convincing the heroine to look prettier so she can attract men.
Interesting take on the whole imaginary friend situation, whimsical, yet it bored me and felt short on the message.
