Beacons of Fire: Nobska Lighthouse, Cape Cod, MA

Prologue: I love Nora Roberts books, well her books mostly those that she wrote prior to 2009. One of her book is the 1985 romantic novel, One Man’s Art, fourth in her longest series, The McGregor Series. The hero of the story, Grant Campbell, is a loner, rude, surly and impossible, who lives in an old lighthouse. Genevieve Grandeau literally lands on his doorstep during one particular stormy night. The story that follows between Grant and Gennie is what inspired me to look at lighthouses in a different light.

In January, I did a trip with my friend on visiting all, if not most, of the lighthouses in Cape Cod, Massachusetts (MA). We stopped at Nobska Lighthouse first. Built in 1828, the present tower was built in 1876 along with the front portion of the current Keeper’s home. It became part of Cost Guard USA in 1939, it is now an automated light house since 1985.

We saw a helipad for helicopters I believe and Nellie Point built in 2002 in honor of Nellie Anne Heffernan Casey where one can sit and enjoy the view of the sea beyond.
