Prologue: I love Nora Roberts books, well her books mostly those that she wrote prior to 2009. One of her book is the 1985 romantic novel, One Man’s Art, fourth in her longest series, The McGregor Series. The hero of the story, Grant Campbell, is a loner, rude, surly and impossible, who lives in an old lighthouse. Genevieve Grandeau literally lands on his doorstep during one particular stormy night. The story that follows between Grant and Gennie is what inspired me to look at lighthouses in a different light.
The sixth light house we visited was Nauset Light, the second tower of the original part of Chatham Lighthouse that moved here in 1923. Obviously it came with a Keeper’s house even though maintained by National Park Service now. This light house also has an underground black cable that served the purpose to transfer news and messages across the Atlantic to Europe for 24 years, now lies dormant. This lighthouse was moved back since it was erected due to erosion. Since 1952 it is automated and has no need for a keeper, however you can still sit and have a view of the sea beyond.

Here is a small video of the lighthouse in motion.
