Daggers of Monolith: Craig Castle, Meriden, CT

For all the posts in the Daggers of Monolith Series, go here.

Prologue: “This ancient obelisk stands sentinel along the track; Its weathered trunk appears to be etched in hieroglyphics; But no human hands have done this work, here nature rules” – By James Tipp. And so the series on Obelisks and Long Towers begins.

I have been meaning to go here for a long time and finally went with my parents to see the fall colors from up top. We can drive upto Craig Castle on top of East Peak in Meriden, CT. It is an observation tower and on October 29, 1900, was given to the people of Meriden by Walter Hubbard, President of the Bradley & Hubbard Manufacturing Company, and one of the most generous of the city’s philanthropic citizens.

An interior stairway provides access to the observation deck. We can see a lot from top, but we mainly (Me and my mom) climbed it for Fall Colors.

On The Flag Day in 1987, the folks of Meriden formed a coalition and put a flag near the observation tower commemorating the bicentennial.
