For all the poems in this Two Sylvias Press Advent Calendar challenge, visit my musings here.
Prologue: This is a 31 day event that helps poets and authors all over to pen down 31 new poems in the month of December (2025). Every day we can open the calendar for that day to read about the prompt for that day. Then let your imagination fly to infinity with your thoughts and voice.
Note: I am in 2026, but will continue with the prompts and poems till Dec 31st 2025.
For Day 28 the prompt given to us was to write a poem where you find or lose a winning lottery ticket. What could be this “what if” scenario? Mention a few words in the poem – dog-sitter, debate, break, zig-zag, recycle, fault, glue, kitchen, parallel, uneasy, orchid, sliver-lining. Here is my take. I made it scary and scared myself. 😛

I Watched The Refrigerator Door In My Kitchen
How Uneasy I Felt Looking At The Lottery Ticket
Stuck With A Magnet, With Some Numbers Written
Looks Silly But Do They Have To Make Me Fidget?
Reminded Me Of The Orchids In The Vase
Lying Glued To The Center Table.
Time To Water Them; As They Take Up The Space
On It. Doest It Make Me An Angel?
Called My Aunt Anticipating Winning
The Lottery, Told Her About The Amount.
Little Did I Know That Her Mind Was Spinning
With All Tales, To Kill Me For The Account.
She Zigged And Zagged To My Place
In Her Fancy Car. Debating With Me On My Gains.
And Pointing All My Faults To My Face
All The While Pouring A Drink Laced With Poison Into My Veins.
No One Saw Her Come, I Didn’t Have An Alibi To Break.
But The Fast Acting Venom Made Me Clearer In Brain.
Final Moments Of My Life, And I Realized How Much Fake
She Was And Leaving Me Down On The Floor With Pain.
Last Feeble Attempt To Get Back At Her
I Picked The Poker By Stand And Stabbed.
Now I Let The Police Figure Out If It Was A Spur
Of Moment Or Pre-Planned While I Lay Slabbed.
What Is The Reason For Either, They Wonder.
While The Lottery Ticket Lies On The Refrigerator Door
Singing The Tale Of Murder To Reach The Frontier
And Talks About Someone Settling Score.
There Is a Sliver-Lining at the end.
