Holidays & Observances: Ramadan

For all the posts in this Holidays & Observances series, go here.

Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. šŸ™‚

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed by Muslims all over during which they spend time in fasting, prayers, self-reflection and community reach. The last day of the month is the big holiday Eid which is when the fasting ends, and followers rejoice in a day long celebration of feast, and festivities.

The month of Ramadan shifts every year per the lunar changes that influence the Islamic Calendar. This year (2023) it began on March 22 and ended on April 21.
