Prologue: I have been meaning to write a series about Holidays and Observances that we (my family and friends) follow in both India (my birth country) and USA (my adopted country). This series is dedicated to those. On a side note, perhaps I might witness some of the celebrations from other countries as well that may get their way into this series. š
Every May 1st the Celtics celebrate Beltane aka May Day. It’s a time for love, flowers and the heat of both a bonfire and the ardor that can come from fertility celebrations. Also marks the middle of Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. It begins the summer farming season too.
Followers dress up and wear flower crowns to stay up all night and watch the sunrise on the day of Beltane thus camping ending up being one of the traditions on the eve of Beltane. May Pole dances are pretty common along with planting of flowers and other small plants.
