This song is from the 1951 Indian Hindi – language crime drama film Awaara(= The Vagabond). Raj Kapoor’s, the Lead actor, poor “little tramp” character references Charlie Chaplin which he further developed in other films.
Music was composed by Shankar – Jaikishan to the Lyrics penned by Shailendra. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar. This was the first time a dream song was introduced in a film. We have since then many dream songs in a film.
