Strange Oddities and Peculiar Pretties: “The Duke” and California Mission Bell

For all posts about the wonderful and weird surprising stuff I did or saw, click here.

The first thing one gets to see as they exit the Orange Country Airport in Santa Ana, California, one gets to see the 9 foot statue of John Wayne “The Duke”. Famous for his starring roles in the Westerns and War Movies of the Golden Age of Hollywood, this statue fittingly dedicated to his gigantic career that spanned several decades. The statue was erected on November 4th in 1982; and the airport is nicknamed as John Wayne Airport.

Another interesting piece of history I saw was the California Mission Bell still standing just outside the terminal gate. This bell commemorates the route of El Camino Real “The Kings Highway” and sists on the crossroads of the summer and winter route from Mission San Juan Capistrano to  Mission San Gabriel Arcangel.
